Gross Receipts Tax

Failure to file and/or pay gross receipts taxes in a timely manner may result in penalties and interest charges.

What is the Gross Receipts tax? In lieu of a statewide sales or even local tax being imposed in Delaware, there is a Gross Receipts tax assessed on the seller of goods or provider of services in the State. Gross receipts are comprised of the total received from goods sold and services rendered for a specified period of time. There are no deductions for cost of goods or property sold, discounts paid, delivery costs, or any other expenses allowed. However, the state does grant an exclusion to reduce the amount of taxable gross receipts and often this exclusion exceeds the taxable amount calculated resulting in a no tax due situation.

Gross receipts tax rates range from 0.1006% to 0.7543% and are due monthly or quarterly depending upon your business activity. If you have income from more than one type of activity, separate gross receipts tax reporting is required. Failure to file and/or pay gross receipts taxes in a timely manner may result in penalties and interest charges.

In an effort to save money, Delaware has discontinued the printing and mailing of gross receipt tax coupon booklets and the returns must be filed using the state website. You have the following options:

Option 1: If you wish to complete the returns yourself, please visit our website at www.MarshallWagner.com, hover over the More tab at the top of the page and click on the “Online Tax Payments” link. When the page loads, you will need to select “Pay Delaware Gross Receipts Tax”. When the Gross Receipts Tax System page opens you must select on the left side how you wish to proceed – File Online or Print/Mail Form. With the File Online option any payment due must be paid through the state’s secure website using a credit/debit card or by automatic withdrawal from your checking or savings account. If you select Print/Mail Form, you must enter all the information through the website and then print to mail the forms along with any payment that may be due.

Option 2: With the above option, you will need to remember each month or quarter to complete your filing. This option allows you to leave the worry with us. We will contact you to receive the required information and handle the online filing of your gross receipt forms. Our fee will be $35 to file monthly or $75.00 to file quarterly. If you are a contractor or real estate developer, our fee will be $55 to file monthly or $125 to file quarterly.

Option 3: With the above options, you will need to remember each month or quarter to complete your filing. With Option 3, you can leave the worry to us. We will contact you to receive the required information, then handle the on-line filing of your gross receipt forms. Our fee will be $35 to file monthly or $75.00 to file quarterly.
